Question: What are some future repercussions after a DUI conviction in Oklahoma?
Answer: For the average person, it can involve things from jobs, even credit scores, ability to rent an apartment. We see a lot of different things that come into play. If there was any kind of professional licensing involved, even particularly if the person is in the medical field, if they’re a pilot, all of these require reporting. It could be beyond the scope of what the court does—there could be sanctions within their field of work. So, these things tend to hang around for a long time. And even in a criminal case, possibly at times there are ways to clear those records and expunge them. As we heard earlier, there are two separate instances if a person gets a drivers license suspension from a DUI, that stays on their record forever. That’s an administrative issue and there are not provisions in the law to allow for expungement of that record.
