Clay Ballenger was born and raised in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from the University of Oklahoma while simultaneously completing the Army ROTC program. He was commissioned as a U.S. Army Reserve Officer and served eleven years including a combat tour in Afghanistan. He finished his military career as a captain.
Clay began his law enforcement career in 1997 at the Okmulgee Police Department but soon was selected for the Tulsa Police Academy. He retired after twenty-four years with the Tulsa Police Department as a lieutenant. He served in a variety of assignments including patrol, community education, traffic investigation unit, and was an elected officer for several years with the Tulsa Fraternal Order of Police. His specialized training included the Advanced Traffic Investigator course, Information Collection While on Patrol (InCOP) train the trainer course, and DUI Investigations as well as crime scene investigation and interview techniques. Clay was also one of the founding members and a platoon leader on the Tulsa Police Department’s Special Response Team tasked with responding to and guaranteeing constitutional rights were preserved at civil disturbances, protests, and large gatherings.
His off-duty time is often spent volunteering as a member of The American Legion teaching and mentoring youth. He is a past director of The American Legion Oklahoma Boys State program and serves on the staff of The American Legion Boys Nation program in Washington D.C. each summer. Clay continues as a counselor with Oklahoma Boys State and has volunteered with that program for over 25 years. He is also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Clay Ballenger took 8 days off in 2022 with American Legion Boys State. He has been involved for over 30 years and served the last 6 years as the State Director of the program. He also will be spending a week in Washington in July of 2022 with the kids. This is the quality of people working with Edge Law Firm.
